Autumn 2026 News

Quick update to let you know what we’ve been up to in the last few months.

It’s been a tricky growing season for everyone due to the impact of climate change; an unprecedented amount of drought really brings home the need to develop locally adapted seed to support food resilience going forward. On top of the drought we also had an unexpectedly windy day which damaged our small polytunnel beyond repair.

Despite this we have had great success with tomatoes, aubergines, lettuce and peppers amongst other crops, and the kale is doing well. Squash have not done quite as well as we’d hoped, but were planted a bit late so potentially will do better next year all being well!

Ben also led an Intro to Seed Saving workshop at Living Potential Care Farm walled garden nr Wetherby – a fantastic day and something we’d like to do more of – please get in touch if you would be interested in attending or hosting a seed saving workshop in 2027 🙂

Some of our amazing volunteers in September

We had a fantastic work day in September where a group of volunteers got loads of jobs done including helping to clear a large area that we’re going to be hosting our new shed! This will be a massive help to both keep things organised and provide some storage for some of the crops that need to be cured for a while before processing, such as winter squash. We’ll also be helping our friends out at Fruit Works Cooperative to provide them with space to store some of their apple harvest.

Volunteers also got to have a look at what’s in the Seed Library at the moment, including some giant winter spinach and ornamental greens which are great things to sow at this time of year.

We will be sharing a date for an October work session soon – watch this space!
